GCOO, Korea's leading personal mobility (PM) sharing service, operated by GBike, announced on the 30th that from January to November 2024, their PMs traveled a total of 84 million km. This distance is equivalent to circling the earth 2,100 times and matches the distance covered by 4,200 buses operating year-round, a common public transport method. This indicates that GCOO is establishing itself as a 'new public transport' for Koreans, bridging the gap between public transit stops.
* As of August 13, 2024, according to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's 2023 vehicle driving distance statistics for commercial passenger vehicles

The distance covered by GCOO's electric bicycles and electric scooters is more than twice the annual mileage of the entire public transport in Sejong Special Self-Governing City (commercial passenger vehicles, approximately 37 million km), and more than 1.5 times the annual mileage of public transport in the major five districts of Seoul (Jongno-gu, Jung-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, Seodaemun-gu, and Yongsan-gu, approximately 53 million km). According to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, the average annual mileage of a domestic public transport bus is about 19,783 km. GCOO, in 11 months this year, covered a distance equivalent to that traveled by approximately 4,200 buses.
In particular, GCOO launched its electric bicycle service in June 2023. Through this, the number of rides increased by 42% in 2024 compared to the previous year, while the distance covered slightly increased by 5%. This suggests that the usage habits have shifted to using electric bicycles for long distances and scooters for short distances. This indicates that GCOO is frequently used in daily life and is becoming an indispensable ‘foot’ for Koreans.
GCOO operates over 100,000 devices, the largest scale in Korea. This has solidified its position as the leading company in the industry, holding the top market share in all metropolitan local governments nationwide. Most notably, they have activated services even in non-capital regions where public transport is relatively challenging, helping local residents with convenient travel. Additionally, they have contributed to stimulating regional employment by creating 1,100 jobs through their headquarters and nationwide business sites.
Jongsu Yoon, CEO of GBike, said, “We have strived to take on a pillar role in public transport as a new means of transport.” He added, “We will create a positive cycle by providing more customers with convenient and safe short-distance transport options while complementing the local community's transport infrastructure.”
