Hello! It's the perfect weather to ride a scooter while enjoying the cool summer breeze~~😂

Gcooter is working hard to ensure the safety of our users~

As part of our efforts for safety, we conducted an internal interview!

The first interviewee is

none other than the leader of the Gcooter Development Team 1, Matt!

Q1. Could you please introduce yourself?

A. Hello! I'm Matt, a developer with 13 years of experience.

I've been the team leader for Development 1 at GBIKE since 2019.

Back in 2019, we were gearing up to launch a shared scooter service called Gcooter, and although we faced many challenges in the development phase, I'm proud to say that we successfully launched the service.

At that time, the company had about 30 employees, and looking back at GBIKE, which has grown to over 200 employees as of June 2022, I often reminisce about the early days and feel nostalgic.

Q2. What teams exist within the development division and what do they do?

A. The development division consists of four teams. Development Team 1 works on server development and database construction/design, Development Team 2 on IoT communication, the Front Team manages the webpage and operational web, and the Mobile Team develops mobile applications.

Given the nature of a development team, there's a lot of inter-departmental collaboration, so we communicate and cooperate to perform. Especially, over the past two years, we've built various safety systems in response to traffic law amendments and safety-related issues, and we plan to continue developing to ensure even safer rides in the future.

Q3. What are some established safety systems that have been implemented?

A. Notably, we have 'Geographic Restrictions', 'Traffic Law Compliance', 'No-Parking Zones'.

  1. Geographic Restrictions

There was a university with many parking issues.

Parking often occurred in dangerous areas such as the middle of campus roads, corners, indoors, etc., and the university was receiving many complaints.

Recognizing the seriousness of the issue, we designated the entire area of the university as a no-parking zone.

Although this led to some loss of revenue, we considered it an essential measure to pursue our motto: 'The Safest PM'.

  1. Traffic Law Compliance

Following the amendment of traffic laws in May 2021, licenses became mandatory for riding.

Hence, Gcooter quickly adapted to the changes in the traffic law, requiring license registration. This preventative measure helped avoid safety accidents involving unlicensed riders.

We are proud to say this entire process was handled within 48 hours, allowing for a swift response.

  1. No-Parking Zones

We have exclusive no-parking zones such as tactile paving for the visually impaired, car lanes, crosswalk entrances, intersections, etc.

No-parking zones are set after considering complaints received by our CS team and the opinions of local operations teams regarding indiscriminate parking and dangerous areas.

As this service is closely related to the safety of citizens, we conduct internal discussions on parking restrictions every week.

Q4. Finally, is there anything else you would like to say?

A. I would like to inform you about proper parking guidelines!

After riding, when parking, make sure that the location does not obstruct pedestrians or vehicular traffic, and is not prone to accidents.

Places where you should not park include children's playgrounds, bike paths, and in front of subway station exits.

Even frequent scooter riders can be pedestrians or drivers when not riding.

If everyone cultivates consideration for others, we can establish a culture of Proper PM (Personal Mobility) that ensures everyone's safety.

Thank you.

Did you enjoy reading the interview? 😉
