Mobility sharing service company G-Bike (CEO Jong-Su Yun) announced on the 5th that it has attracted strategic investments from Hyundai Motor and Kia.

G-Bike operates the mobility sharing service 'Gcooter'. It operates about 45,000 electric scooters nationwide and has over 2.5 million service subscribers. Last year, it achieved sales of 33.5 billion won, recording the highest revenue in shared PM in Asia.

With this investment, both companies plan to strengthen cooperation on the mobility businesses they are running, enhancing the technical competitiveness of the services overall, and creating a collaborative ecosystem between conglomerates and startups to jointly advance future mobility initiatives.

In particular, Gcooter plans to accelerate the development of the domestic electric scooter Gcooter K2, equipped with an autonomous driving feature, the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), to enhance the safety of scooter-sharing services. The Gcooter K2 is designed to automatically slow down when it detects the risk of an accident and has plans to establish a mass production system to offer services in the domestic market as soon as possible.

Particularly, as personal mobility (PM) becomes a popular alternative to recent climate and environmental changes, its usage is gradually increasing. Countries such as the United States and Europe are actively expanding PM usage among their citizens as a means to suppress the increase in car traffic, including the expansion of PM roads. In New York, for instance, a policy is being promoted to install physical barriers over 480 miles for the safe use of PM.

G-Bike CEO Jong-Su Yun stated, "Currently, the world is experiencing abnormal weather phenomena, such as droughts and floods, and this summer in Korea, we had direct experiences with urban flooding," adding, "We will continue to collaborate with Hyundai Motor and Kia to expand eco-friendly transportation and plan to elevate our value as a sustainable future growth company in the field of future mobility."

Meanwhile, Gcooter has been leading the industry with its technological prowess and differentiated services, successfully developing and commercializing the country's first domestic shared scooter, Gcooter K, and has been maintaining its position as the largest shared PM company in Korea with the highest market share since October 2020.
