GCOO, operated by GBike with CEO Jong-su Yoon, announced on July 18 that it has signed a contract to acquire the 'ZET' service, a shared PM (Personal Mobility) business with Hyundai and Kia. PM is also called 'Personal Mobility Device' under the Road Traffic Act and refers to a one-person transportation device powered by electricity.
The 'ZET' platform acquired by Gcooter is an open last-mile mobility platform project developed by Hyundai and Kia in 2019 to provide optimized solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises entering the mobility service business and to contribute to the development of domestic mobility services and the creation of a coexisting ecosystem. Gcooter will officially take over and operate the 'ZET' platform starting from August.
Currently, Gcooter has about 2 million members and has surpassed 40 million cumulative rides as of April this year, maintaining its position as the number one market share in the domestic market and the largest shared PM business entity in Korea.
CEO Jong-su Yoon of GBike said, "It's true that the overall atmosphere in the industry has gone down after Lime Company temporarily withdrew its service in Korea," and stated, "In order to grow the PM industry stably amidst many regulations and a rapidly changing market environment, we need extensive external support and collaborative efforts. Please look forward to Gcooter's potential to discover and grow sustainable fields in various areas with Hyundai and Kia in the future."
