G-Bike, which operates the Personal Mobility (PM) sharing platform GCOO, announced on the 28th that it has signed a business agreement with the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre (HMCC) in Vietnam to jointly start a pilot electric bicycle sharing service.

According to the business agreement, GCOO will provide shared electric bicycles in major tourist destinations within Hue City, encompassing the Hue Imperial Palace and the Jarong Mausoleum, and cooperate in building an eco-friendly and sustainable tourism infrastructure.

GCOO contributes to building an environmentally friendly transportation infrastructure called the 'Green Transportation System' throughout Hue, offering efficient and eco-friendly transportation options to tourists visiting Hue City, and plays a role in the sustainable development of tourism.

GCOO is exerting efforts in geographic deployment and maintenance, such as charging, considering the main routes of tourists to provide a safe and convenient travel experience for the global and local tourists of Hue City (3.2 million in 2023, according to HMCC statistics), and in response, HMCC plans to actively promote GCOO's electric bicycles as a sustainable and eco-friendly transportation infrastructure to tourists.

GCOO is Asia's No.1 micro mobility sharing company, operating over 100,000 PM (Personal Mobility) units in key cities in the U.S. and Thailand, beyond Korea, and expanding its international presence. Recently, it has taken the lead in creating an eco-friendly micro mobility ecosystem that includes not only electric bicycles but also electric scooters, electric wheelchairs, and budget electric motorcycles by developing BSS (Battery Swapping Station) with its technology.

Moreover, GCOO's cumulative sales have reached 150 billion won, attracting investments from leading domestic venture capitals such as Strong Ventures, CymaX, SBI Investment, Premier Partners, Yuanta Investment, Mirae Asset, and LB Investment. Following its achievement of becoming No.1 in Asia with sales of 33.5 billion won in 2021, GCOO updated its highest performance for the second year in a row with sales of 53 billion won in 2022, which is a 60% growth compared to the previous year.

Hoang Viet Trung, director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre, said, "Vietnam is promoting concrete action plans to achieve the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, as declared at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference. As part of that action plan, the significance of this business agreement lies in contributing to Vietnam's net-zero achievement through building sustainable tourism infrastructure, such as introducing shared mobility in Hue City."

Representative Yoon Jong-soo of G-Bike stated, "GCOO has contributed to making city life patterns more eco-friendly through operating micro mobility sharing services in Korea, Thailand, and Southeast Asia, and is taking the lead in achieving net-zero by expanding mobility convenience while reducing carbon emissions." He added, "It is an honor to cooperate with Hue City’s urban development plans that aim for an eco-friendly and efficient city, and we look forward to creating a future of sustainable tourism industry and smart city construction in Vietnam through the near-distance eco-friendly shared mobility service with Hue City."

Meanwhile, Hue City was the capital of the last traditional dynasty that ruled Vietnam for 144 years and has been recognized as 'Complex of Hué Monuments,' comprising various tangible and intangible cultural heritages, including Jarong Mausoleum and the Old Town surrounding the Imperial Palace. It was the first in Vietnam to be listed as a World Cultural Heritage site in 1993. Additionally, it has been selected by the American travel magazine Travel+Leisure as one of the 'Asia: The Definitive List Of Unforgettable Destinations To Visit In 2024.'
