GBike, led by CEO Yoon Jong-soo, is operating the personal mobility (PM) sharing service platform 'GCOO', has conducted a joint public and private PM safety campaign to strengthen traffic safety awareness for personal mobility devices.

This campaign was organized to prevent traffic accidents that may occur with the increased use of PMs such as electric scooters, and to form a safe usage culture among users.

GCOO conducted the PM safety campaign nationally on October 31st, involving local governments in areas such as Gangbuk District in Seoul, Daegu Metropolitan City, and Yeonsu District in Incheon, promoting various safety culture activities including education and outreach efforts.

In Gangbuk District, the campaign was attended by the traffic administration department of Gangbuk District Office, Gangbuk Police Station, and shared PM companies including GCOO. They distributed brochures to citizens with key points on road traffic laws such as keeping a driver's license, wearing helmets, prohibiting two-person rides, and forbidding drunk driving. Discussions were also held between the district office and PM sharing companies to continuously cooperate for creating a safe personal mobility environment.

The Daegu Metropolitan City's campaign was held on October 31st and November 2nd at Keimyung University and Kyungpook National University, attended by the Daegu City Transport Policy Division, Road Traffic Authority, Green Mothers' Association, as well as student councils from both universities and shared PM companies including GCOO. Targeting university students—who are key customers of shared PM—correct guidelines for using personal mobility devices (electric scooters) were promoted, and ad-hoc parking areas were designated in areas with numerous complaints to improve pedestrian safety and tidy up randomly parked PMs.

The campaign in Yeonsu District, Incheon was attended by Yeonsu District's Traffic Administration Department, the Association of Model Drivers, the Green Mothers' Association, and GCOO. During the safety campaign, they intensively promoted what PM users must be aware of, including the current status of the road traffic law, correct parking locations, and considerate driving towards pedestrians. Furthermore, the campaign included listening to residents' complaints related to PM and relocating abandoned devices to recommended return areas such as PM-specific parking lots or nearby bicycle racks.

In addition, GCOO has partnered with the Road Traffic Authority to provide hands-on safety education opportunities by visiting regions lacking in experiential facilities through the '2023 Traffic Safety Experience Class' over 20 times this year, and is also conducting regular safety education targeting middle and high schools in the Gangseo District of Seoul in collaboration with public institutions and local governments.

GCOO CEO Yoon Jong-soo said, "Personal mobility devices are establishing themselves as a new mode of transportation for individuals and are in a transitional phase. For the mature use of PM, it’s not just the efforts of the companies but also the civic consciousness of the users that need to be supported,” and added, “We will continue to work closely with related organizations to carry out traffic safety campaigns that raise awareness, strengthen management capabilities, and do our best for the institutional settlement of PM."
